Ms. Sylvia Egbegi

The Aviation Africa Summit (AVAF) 2025 holding at Kigali Rwanda presented an opportunity for Ms. Sylvia Egbegi, representing the President Women In Aviation (WIA) Nigeria, Mrs. Rejoice Ndudinachi, to harp on the need for more women in leadership positions within the aviation industry.

Speaking at the 9th edition of the 2025 AVAF Summit and Exhibition, Egbegi highlighted the importance of equal opportunities and gender diversity in the sector.

According to her, advancing gender equality could bring significant economic benefits to the industry, with an estimated value of 12 trillion dollars.

Moreover, increased women’s participation can help address employment and talent shortages currently affecting the industry.

To promote women’s participation, Egbegi recommended that establishments hire experienced women to inspire young talents, foster a culture of inclusion and respect, and encourage women’s participation. She also suggested that Civil Society Organisations organise awareness campaigns to promote women’s involvement in aviation and advocate for gender equality.

She commended notable female aviators, including the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, for her remarkable performance as the first female CEO in the agency.
