The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has renewed its call on employees across the country to complete registration and select a preferred Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO) under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

This step reinforces the Authority’s commitment to staff welfare while aligning with the federal government policy. The initiative highlights FAAN’s growing focus on structured healthcare access as a cornerstone of workforce wellbeing across its airports and administrative offices.

The directive was issued through an internal circular dated 13 January 2026 and signed by the Director of Human Resources and Administration, Dr. Emiola Olatunbosun, who also chairs the FAAN NHIS-HMO Committee. The memo was circulated to the Managing Director and Chief Executive, directors, regional general managers, airport managers, general managers, and staff nationwide, ensuring organisation-wide awareness.

FAAN explained that the HMO registration exercise aligns with the federal government’s requirement for all citizens to be enrolled under the NHIS. The Management, however, emphasised that the programme extends beyond regulatory compliance.

The HMO framework is designed to improve healthcare delivery for staff, reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses, and ensure predictable access to quality medical services across the country.

To streamline the process, FAAN has launched a dedicated digital portal that allows employees to select their preferred HMO with minimal administrative hurdles. Through the platform, staff are required to choose one provider from three approved HMOs: AXA Mansard, Leadway Health, and Avon Healthcare.

According to the Management, the centralised system enhances transparency while encouraging active staff participation in healthcare decisions.

The enrollment process is conducted via hmo.faan.gov.ng, which FAAN identified as the official gateway for registration under the scheme. Employees have been encouraged to familiarise themselves with the portal, as their chosen HMO will determine the scope and quality of healthcare services once full NHIS implementation commences.

Although no specific deadline was announced, FAAN noted that the National Health Insurance Authority’s formal registration timeline will be communicated in due course. This phased approach, management said, allows staff sufficient time to review their HMO options while preparing for nationwide enrolment.

The NHIS-HMO Committee urged employees to prioritise the exercise, stressing that early registration would help prevent disruptions to healthcare access during the transition period. The Management also directed that the circular be displayed on all FAAN notice boards to ensure inclusiveness across airport locations.

FAAN’s renewed emphasis on healthcare reflects broader welfare-focused reforms across Nigeria’s aviation agencies, where workforce-centred policies are increasingly seen as essential to operational resilience and service delivery.

Referencing internal memo FAAN/W&MS/01/26, the Authority reaffirmed its alignment with national health policy reforms and its commitment to improving employee welfare. By digitising the HMO selection process, FAAN aims to reduce administrative delays, strengthen accountability, and provide more reliable healthcare coverage for its workforce.

As FAAN continues to modernise internal systems, the Management reiterated that staff welfare remains central to organisational stability. The HMO programme, the Authority noted, is expected to boost productivity, enhance morale, and deliver long-term healthcare security for employees across Nigeria’s airport network.
