In line with its commitment to prevent criminal elements from exploiting Nigeria’s aviation environment, the Lagos Anti-Fraud Unit of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old suspect over an alleged large-scale fraud involving ₦48.5 million (Forty-Eight Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira), equivalent to approximately $35,000.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Airport Police Command, Lagos, ASP Mohammed Adeola, said the arrest was carried out on February 2, 2026, following actionable intelligence. The suspect, identified as Precious Onudhona, a native of Delta State, was apprehended at the airport while attempting to board a flight to Asaba.
Preliminary investigations according to him, revealed that the suspect became involved in fraudulent activities in 2023 after joining a syndicate specialising in romance-related scams. The group allegedly targeted unsuspecting victims on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram using fabricated identities and deceptive storylines.
Further findings showed that Onudhona posed as “Travis Kevin”, a supposed white American medical doctor, and created a fake banking domain displaying fictitious account balances. Through the platform, he allegedly induced victims to send money under the guise of short-term loans for feeding and medical supplies, claiming he sustained injuries in the line of duty and required support via cryptocurrency channels.
The Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, ordered a comprehensive investigation to ensure justice is served and that other members of the fraud syndicate are tracked and arrested. She reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance policy toward criminality within the airport ecosystem, describing the aviation environment as a sensitive corridor that must not be exploited for illegal activities.
She added that the suspect would be transferred to the Interpol Section for further investigation and prosecution.
The Airport Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s aviation space against fraud and related crimes.
