Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, has unveiled plans to uplift and empower women as part of activities to mark International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026.
Globally observed every March 8, International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women while amplifying the call for gender equality and women’s rights. This year’s commemoration marks a historic milestone — 115 years of collective advocacy and progress since the Day was founded in 1911.
At Julius Berger, the 2026 celebration will hold nationwide across all its regions on Friday, March 6, ahead of the global date. In line with this year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” the company has designed a series of impactful activities aimed at empowering young girls and inspiring its workforce.
Central to the celebration is an outreach programme to selected government secondary schools. Julius Berger plans to visit two schools in Abuja and one school in each of its regions during the company’s lunch break period on the day of the event. The outreach will feature motivational talks, mentorship sessions and the distribution of gifts to encourage and support young girls in their academic and personal development. Women volunteers from within the company will form part of the visiting teams.
In addition, the company will host a webinar at 4:00 p.m. the same day, featuring a distinguished guest speaker. The virtual session will be open to all staff members nationwide, providing an opportunity for reflection, learning and engagement around gender inclusion and empowerment.
According to the organisers, the combined activities reflect the spirit of the 2026 theme, reinforcing the belief that when knowledge, support and opportunity are given, society collectively gains a stronger and more confident future generation.
IWD remains a global platform for advancing gender balance. Each year, the United Nations announces a theme that guides advocacy efforts throughout the year and beyond. Traditionally, women mark the Day by wearing purple ribbons or colours symbolising justice, dignity and equality, often combined with green and white.
As IWD clocks 115 years in 2026, Julius Berger said it is deepening its participation in the global movement, reaffirming its commitment to creating opportunities that strengthen and uplift women across Nigeria.
