The Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has launched a Green Channel initiative at the Lekki Deep Sea Port, a strategic move aimed at streamlining cargo clearance, reducing delays, and enhancing operational efficiency for port users.
The unveiling, held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, represents a significant milestone in the Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) ongoing drive to deepen trade facilitation through innovation, technology, and stronger stakeholder collaboration.
Addressing stakeholders at the event, Adeniyi explained that the initiative—introduced by the Lekki Deep Sea Port and approved by NCS Management—was designed to tackle recurring challenges in container stacking and examination processes that often slow down cargo handling at major ports.

“This intervention allows containers to move directly from the vessel into a dedicated facility where customers can easily access them. From the moment the container leaves the vessel to its arrival at this location, it is electronically tracked”, he stated.
The CGC noted that the Green Channel establishes a dedicated clearance corridor with minimal bureaucratic hurdles, ensuring smoother cargo flow and significantly improved turnaround time for importers and other port users.
He described the project as a reflection of growing trust and collaboration between Customs and its stakeholders, emphasising that strict compliance and shared responsibility will be critical to sustaining its benefits.

“What we have achieved today is built on the trust we have invested in our stakeholders and the confidence that they will operate within the framework of compliance and trade facilitation”, Adeniyi said.
Beyond improving port operations, the CGC highlighted that the Green Channel aligns with Nigeria’s broader economic agenda of creating a more competitive and business-friendly trade environment.

He expressed optimism that the initiative would reduce the cost and time of doing business, while also strengthening revenue generation for the Nigeria Customs Service.
