
Members of Nzuko Umumgboto Umungara, a women’s association from Umungara community in Amano Obohia, Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, have paid a courtesy visit to the palace of the traditional ruler of Amano Ancient Kingdom, Eze Chidume Okoro.
The delegation was received at the Amano palace by the monarch and his wife, Ugoeze Adaku Chidume Okoro, in what members described as a warm and cordial interaction aimed at strengthening the relationship between the community’s traditional institution and the daughters of the land.
Speaking during the visit, the National Coordinator and Convener of the association, Nwanma Ogidi, expressed appreciation to the royal father for granting the group audience. She described the palace as a symbol o. f unity, peace and cultural identity for the people of Umungara.
Ogidi emphasised the need for sustained peace within the community, noting that peace remains the foundation for meaningful development. She also urged the traditional ruler to ensure inclusiveness in ongoing and future peace-building efforts so that no segment of the community feels marginalised.
She further appealed for the formal recognition of Nzuko Umumgboto Umungara as a community cultural organisation and civil society group within the community structure, saying such recognition would strengthen the group’s contributions to development and cultural promotion.
Other members of the delegation, including the Vice President of the association, Josephine Okoro, also highlighted the role of women as key agents of peace and social harmony, calling for stronger collaboration among traditional rulers, community leaders, youths and women groups to sustain stability and development in Umungara.
The association presented a token gift to the monarch on behalf of the group, describing the gesture as a sign of loyalty and appreciation for his leadership and fatherly guidance.
Responding, Eze Okoro commended the association for its commitment to unity, peace and progress in Umungara and Amano kingdom. He described the visit and presentation of gifts to the palace as a demonstration of love, respect and solidarity with the traditional institution.
The monarch assured the delegation that their request for recognition would be considered in line with the established guidelines of the community’s governing structure. He also urged members to remain united, transparent and focused on community service.
Okoro reaffirmed his support for initiatives that promote peace, women empowerment and sustainable development, while encouraging the group to continue serving as good ambassadors of their community.
Queen Okoro, welcomed the visitors and praised the association for promoting unity among daughters of the land. She urged them to continue upholding the cultural values of the community while working collectively for peace and progress.
The visit featured royal hospitality and interactions between the palace and members of the association, further strengthening ties between the traditional institution and the women’s group.
