President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned a newly constructed Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘A’ office complex of the Nigeria Customs Service in Iperu, Ogun State, in a move that underscores the Service’s ongoing expansion and reform agenda.

At the commissioning ceremony held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, said the project reflects a deliberate effort to balance the Service’s core mandates of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and enforcement with improved welfare and working conditions for officers.

Adeniyi explained that the relocation from Ikeja, Lagos, became necessary due to increasing operational demands and space constraints at existing facilities. He noted that the new complex is fully furnished and equipped with modern infrastructure, including a standard armoury and a warehouse designed to complement nearby logistics operations.

He commended Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for his support and collaboration in bringing the project to fruition. The Customs boss also paid tribute to his predecessor, Hameed Ali, acknowledging his foundational role in initiating the project.

On funding, Adeniyi disclosed that the project was initially valued at ₦73 billion, noting that prevailing economic conditions may necessitate a review of the cost.

He further revealed that the Nigeria Customs Service has already commenced operations at the adjoining cargo airport, also commissioned the same day, with officers actively participating in cargo handling and terminal operations.

The expansive facility, which is projected to host about 142 buildings, including a training college, multipurpose halls, and a sports complex, is expected to significantly boost operational efficiency and support the Service’s long-term modernisation drive.
