Nigeria’s aviation industry has witnessed a significant shift in passenger rights protection, with Aero Contractors recording a remarkable 137 per cent growth in refunds in 2024.

This upward trend continues into 2025, with refunds reaching ₦257,195,724.39 between January and August, exceeding the ₦108,308,037.40 recorded in the same period of 2024 and marking a substantial increase from ₦32,766,652.30 in 2023.

This notable rise indicates stronger compliance with Part 19 of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Regulations 2023, designed to guarantee fair treatment and compensation for air travellers.

Aero Contractors has also made significant strides in providing care for passengers affected by delays and cancellations, with verified hotel accommodation expenses reaching ₦6,083,229 between January and July 2025.

The NCAA has highlighted that these figures are not unique to Aero Contractors, but rather a reflection of industry-wide improvements.

The authority emphasised that protecting passengers’ rights is crucial, but it must be balanced with protecting airline staff and cabin crew against violence and assault. As the industry strives for world-class service, safety remains a top priority.
