The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has commissioned the newly reconstructed Port Harcourt Airport Road and flagged off the construction of the Bypass to the Airport and Toll Gate Project.

The ceremony held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Friday December 12, 2025 was attended by the Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.

The project was initiated by Fubara in response to demands from the host community, who had protested and blocked access to the airport road due to concerns over marginalisation and lack of infrastructure. The community had demanded employment opportunities, electricity, and improved welfare.

Fubara announced that two of the demands have already been met, including the completion of a Health Centre and electricity supply, while the third demand, employment, is under review.

The Minister commended Fubara’s commitment to addressing the needs of his people and supporting Nigeria’s aviation sector. He described the newly commissioned Airport Road as a “transformational intervention” that brings renewed dignity to the gateway into Rivers State.

The Minister also reaffirmed the federal government’s readiness to collaborate with sub-national governments to ensure modern, safe, and accessible airport infrastructure across the country.

The commissioning of the Airport Road and the flag-off of the Toll Gate and Bypass Project mark another milestone in Fubara’s people-centered governance and commitment to strengthening the state’s position as a key contributor to Nigeria’s aviation and economic growth.

The project is expected to be completed within seven months.
