The Cross River State Commissioner for Aviation, Capt Imah Eno Utum, has expressed interest to partner Lagos Aviation Academy (LAA) on training of aviation professionals.

Utum declared this as the institution celebrated eight years of excellence in aviation training.

During his visit, Utum toured the state-of-the-art facilities and engaged in discussions on workforce development challenges facing the industry.

This visit coincides with Cross River State’s plans to train 100 aviation professionals in preparation for new aircraft operations. Utum while expressing interest in partnering LAA for this initiative, highlighting the importance of skilled talent and industry-aligned training.

“Institutions like LAA are not just responding to the industry’s needs, they are shaping its future,” Commissioner Utum stated. “As we look to grow aviation across Nigeria, the importance of skilled talent and industry-aligned training like what LAA offers cannot be overstated.”

Since its inception in 2017, LAA has trained over 3,000 professionals across various aviation disciplines, achieving a job placement rate exceeding 60 per cent. The academy’s graduates are employed by prominent airlines, travel companies, and aviation service providers in Nigeria and West Africa.

Industry Recognition

LAA’s commitment to excellence has earned it multiple IATA Best Performer Awards in 2018, 2021, 2022, and 2024, solidifying its status as an IATA Authorised Training Centre. The academy’s curriculum is designed to meet international benchmarks, and its infrastructure features smart classrooms and simulation tools.

Building Professionals for the Future

According to Bolaji Durojaiye, Head of School at LAA, “when we say we’re building professionals, we mean individuals equipped to meet global aviation standards. We’ve built a system that fuses technical expertise with real-world readiness – that’s how we stay relevant“.

As Nigeria’s aviation sector continues to expand, training institutions like LAA are poised to play a critical role in producing qualified personnel who meet both domestic and international standards. With its proven track record, LAA is well-positioned to support the growth of the aviation industry in Nigeria and beyond.
