Ethiopian Airlines has announced plans to inaugurate three new domestic airports and commence scheduled passenger services to the destinations by mid-April 2026.
The new airports, located in Negele Borena, Gore Metu, and Debre Markos, will each receive thrice-weekly passenger flights, further strengthening connectivity across Ethiopia. With the addition of these routes, Ethiopian Airlines’ domestic network will expand to 26 destinations, reinforcing its leadership in the country’s aviation sector.
Commenting on the development, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, described the expansion as a significant milestone for both the airline and the nation.
“The inauguration of these three new airports, alongside the launch of passenger services, marks a major milestone for Ethiopian Airlines and for Ethiopia as a whole. This expansion reflects our unwavering commitment to enhancing domestic connectivity and serves as a catalyst for economic growth and regional development.
“Our mission is to build an inclusive and integrated air transport network that empowers communities, unlocks opportunities, and supports national progress by making safe, reliable, and efficient air travel accessible to all”, he said.
As the airline integrates the new destinations into its growing network, it continues to prioritise the modernisation of domestic travel through infrastructure upgrades and service enhancements.
It will be recalled that Ethiopian Airlines inaugurated Yabello Airport as its 23rd domestic destination in 2025, underscoring its sustained commitment to expanding access and improving air transport across the country.
