The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) rolled out the applause and accolades as it celebrated the remarkable career of Mrs. Ijeoma Blessing Nwosu-Igbo, the outgoing General Manager of Public Affairs, who officially retired on Saturday, March 7, 2026, after 24 years of dedicated service to Nigeria’s aviation industry.
The retirement ceremony, affectionately called the “Pen-Down”, was held at the FAAN headquarters in Lagos, bringing together top aviation officials, colleagues, and members of the media to honour a committed aviation communication professional.
Nwosu-Igbo’s journey with FAAN began in August 2002 as a Senior Public Affairs Officer on Grade Level 10. Through her dedication, professionalism, and commitment to excellence, she rose steadily through the ranks to become the General Manager of Public Affairs.
Over her distinguished career, she played a central role in strengthening FAAN’s communication architecture, enhancing public engagement, and promoting the Authority’s image both nationally and internationally. Her leadership ensured that key initiatives, including major airport projects and policy rollouts, were communicated clearly to the public and stakeholders.

As General Manager, Public Affairs, she oversaw FAAN’s corporate image, coordinated media relations, disseminated critical information, and promoted transparency in all operations. Colleagues praised her calm disposition, collaborative leadership, and dedication to mentoring younger professionals, describing her as a true inspiration across the organisation.
During the ceremony, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, described her as an exceptional professional whose impact on the organisation would remain unforgettable.
“She is an enigma and an outstanding professional who served the Authority with remarkable dedication”, Agbebire said.
Similarly, General Manager, Revenue, Caroline Uwabor, said: “Her legacy of service becomes the lasting testimony of her career”.

Chairman of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC), Idris Suleiman, also commended Nwosu-Igbo for fostering strong and cordial relations with aviation journalists and investing time in mentoring younger communicators.
A member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), she was widely respected for promoting transparency and strengthening communication between FAAN and stakeholders, particularly during critical periods for Nigeria’s aviation sector. Since 2018, she also served as Managing Editor of NewsTrack, FAAN’s in-house publication, ensuring that the Authority’s milestones and activities were accurately documented and communicated.
Beyond her professional life, colleagues fondly remembered her love for singing and choral performances, which added warmth and energy to the workplace, making her presence felt beyond the boardrooms and offices.

Her retirement comes at a pivotal moment for FAAN, having helped manage public communication during the ₦712 billion reconstruction of Murtala Muhammed International Airport and the rollout of the Authority’s “Operation Go Cashless” initiative.
As she bows out of active service, Nwosu-Igbo leaves behind a strengthened communication framework, a legacy of mentorship, and a culture of professionalism that younger officers within FAAN have been encouraged to emulate.
The “Pen-Down” ceremony was not just a farewell—it was a celebration of excellence, dedication, and the remarkable journey of an aviation communicator in Nigeria
