The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has extended its warmest congratulations to Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, on his election as Chairman of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council.
The election, held on June 28, 2025, at the WCO Headquarters in Brussels, marks a significant milestone for Nigeria and Africa.
MARAN President, Godfrey Bivbere, hailed the appointment as a “well-deserved global recognition” of Adeniyi’s visionary leadership, citing his reforms that have repositioned the Nigeria Customs Service as a model institution in Africa. Bivbere emphasised that this achievement is not just a win for Nigeria but a significant milestone for Africa and international trade.
“We at MARAN are proud to celebrate this milestone and look forward to more strategic engagements under his forward-thinking leadership”, Bivbere added.
MARAN commended Adeniyi’s commitment to customs modernisation, transparency, and regional trade integration, pledging its continued support for initiatives that promote efficiency across the export and maritime sectors.
The association is confident that Adeniyi’s visionary leadership will drive positive change and promote economic growth in the region. “The election of CGC Adeniyi as WCO Council Chairman is a significant achievement for Nigeria and Africa, demonstrating the continent’s growing influence in global trade and customs affairs”, Bivbere said further.
