The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, has congratulated the pioneer President of the Shipowners Association of Nigeria (SOAN) and Chairman of Starzs Investments Company Limited, Engr. Greg Ogbeifun, on his 75th birthday, describing him as one of the defining figures in Nigeria’s maritime and offshore industry.

In a statement issued Wednesday by his Special Adviser, Dr. Bolaji Akinola, the Minister said Ogbeifun’s life and career reflect decades of enterprise, leadership and service that have helped shape indigenous participation in Nigeria’s shipping and offshore sectors.

“This milestone provides a fitting opportunity to celebrate a life distinguished by enterprise and enduring contributions to the growth and development of Nigeria’s maritime industry”, Oyetola said.

He commended Ogbeifun’s role in deepening local content, particularly through his pioneering leadership of SOAN, the umbrella body for indigenous shipowners, which helped reposition Nigerian operators in a sector once dominated by foreign interests.

According to the Minister, Ogbeifun’s business initiatives have gone beyond profitability to build national capacity and opportunities.

“Your business endeavours have not only created value, but have also driven capacity development, employment generation and the broader goal of strengthening local content within the maritime and offshore sectors”, Oyetola stated.

As Chairman of Starzs Investments Company Limited, Ogbeifun has overseen the expansion of one of Nigeria’s leading indigenous maritime service firms, with strong footprints in vessel ownership, offshore support services and industry advocacy. Industry stakeholders credit him with helping to entrench Nigerian ownership and competitiveness in maritime operations.

Beyond corporate success, the Minister praised Ogbeifun’s commitment to mentorship and national service, describing him as a bridge between generations in the industry.

“Your career reflects a profound sense of service to the nation and belief in Nigeria’s maritime potential. You have consistently exemplified integrity, strategic foresight and mentorship, inspiring a new generation of leaders to pursue excellence and innovation”, he said.

Oyetola added that as Nigeria drives its Marine and Blue Economy agenda, the experience and institutional memory of industry leaders such as Ogbeifun remain critical to sustainable progress.

“I join your family, friends and professional associates in celebrating this remarkable milestone and wishing you continued good health, peace and fulfilment in the years ahead.

“Your contributions have left an indelible mark on our nation’s maritime history”, the Minister said.
