A landmark initiative designed to strengthen professionalism, capacity building, and specialised expertise in maritime journalism will be officially launched tomorrow, December 17, 2025, at the BWC Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The Maritime Media and Capacity Development Centre (MMCDC) is being established to respond to the growing complexity of the maritime sector by promoting informed, data-driven reporting and encouraging deeper engagement among key industry stakeholders.
Positioned to play a transformative role in maritime communication, the Centre will be guided by a distinguished Advisory Board, chaired by the Comptroller General of Customs, Dr. Adewale Adeniyi. Other prominent members include:
Dr. Pius Ukeyima Akutah, Executive Secretary/CEO, Nigerian Shippers’ Council
Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, Vice President, International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) Global
Mr. Kingsley Igwe, Registrar, Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN)
Captain Waredi Enisuoh, Director of Operations, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited
The launch of the MMCDC builds on years of engagement with maritime journalists through annual training seminars. However, the Centre is conceived as a more structured and sustainable platform, focusing on capacity development, research, policy engagement, and professional collaboration within the maritime industry.
The event is expected to attract key stakeholders from government agencies, maritime operators, labour unions, security organisations, and the media, who will deliberate on the future of maritime communication, sectoral growth, and skills development.
The inauguration of the MMCDC marks a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to elevate technical expertise, ethical standards, and professionalism in maritime journalism, while fostering stronger collaboration across the maritime ecosystem.
