The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has recognised dedication and outstanding performance among its workforce with the presentation of awards at its 2025 End-of-Year Get-Together.

The event, held at the union’s national headquarters, brought together staff from various departments to celebrate the conclusion of activities for the year while honouring individuals whose commitment contributed significantly to the union’s achievements in 2025.

The ceremony featured a lively and festive atmosphere, complete with traditional music, refreshments, and social interactions that underscored the spirit of unity within the union.

Speaking at the gathering, MWUN leaders described the union as one of the most dynamic and versatile labour organisations in Nigeria, attributing its successes over the year largely to the dedication, discipline, and professionalism of its staff.

A total of 10 administrative staff members were honoured across various performance-based categories. The Best Overall Staff of the Year award was presented to Comrade Taofeek Adeleke, fondly known as “Dudu,” in recognition of his consistency, strong work ethic, and exceptional dedication. He received a cash prize of ₦100,000.

In the punctuality category for senior staff, the award went to Comrade John, Deputy Secretary General (Administration), while the junior staff punctuality award was won by John Kessy, a Chief Driver, for his reliability and discipline.

Comrade Rotimi Adesunmbo, Assistant Secretary General (Dock), was also recognised for his valuable contributions to the union’s day-to-day operations and overall effectiveness.

Adding colour and excitement to the ceremony, the Best Dressed Staff award was jointly won by Comrade Kenneth Ibanga, Comrade Mistura Adesina, and Akuchi Jane Nneji.

Special commendations were also presented to staff members noted for their consistent support and dedication to union activities. Those recognised included Comrade Funke Apesin, Comrade Joseph Ekwere, Comrade Adele Matthew, and Sherif Ogbeide.

Union officials explained that the awards initiative is part of MWUN’s broader strategy to motivate staff, promote professionalism, and foster excellence across all cadres. They reaffirmed the union’s commitment to staff welfare and capacity development.

The officials expressed confidence that the recognition would further enhance unity, morale, and productivity within MWUN as it prepares for the challenges and opportunities of the coming year.
