The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), under the leadership of its President-General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has successfully concluded dockworkers’ district elections across several outstations, with members commending the exercise as free, fair and credible.

The elections, conducted in phases, covered districts in Warri, Calabar and Port Harcourt. The first phase involved the Eastern Port Districts, comprising Delta Port and Julius Berger Districts in Warri, Delta State. The second phase spanned Calabar, FLT and FOT Districts, as well as INTELS and OMT Districts, in addition to Port Harcourt Districts I and II, Bonny District and the Central Pool District in Calabar and Port Harcourt.

At the end of the exercise, principal officers were elected across the various districts.

In Delta Port District, Comrade Gabriel Koma emerged as Chairman, with Comrade Charles Avwata as Vice Chairman and Comrade Paul Bolomu as Secretary. Other officers include Monday Aiyanyor (Assistant Secretary), Laju Atune (Treasurer), Julius Norah (Special Female Representative) and Sunday Sesi (NEC Member), alongside other appointed officers bringing the total to 24.

For the Julius Berger District, Comrade Samson Pere was elected Chairman, supported by Comrade Edemayibo Ormireju as Vice Chairman and Comrade Kenneth Atagan as Secretary. Other elected officers include Jude Abilabor (Assistant Secretary), Orugboh Edonmi (Treasurer), Anuchie Collins (NEC Member) and Ebuwa Isibor (Special Female Representative), with additional appointees bringing the number to 13.

In Calabar District, Comrade Maurice Edet emerged Chairman, alongside Comrade Uweh Ekpo (Vice Chairman) and Comrade Joseph Rkpe (Secretary). Other officials are Bassey Ekpeyong (Assistant Secretary), Akpan Joshua (Treasurer), Bassey Asuquo Etim (NEC Member) and Margaret Ebiti Peter (Special Female Representative), with other appointees totaling 15.

The Central Pool District produced Comrade John Ebobo as Chairman, with Comrade Amoo Bobola as Vice Chairman and Comrade Aniete Akpan as Secretary. Others include Cyril Akpan (Assistant Secretary), Godwin Acha (Treasurer), Stephen Dad (NEC Member) and Janet Okoro (Special Female Representative), alongside other appointed officers numbering 18.

In the FLT District, Comrade Friday Ajilo emerged Chairman, with Comrade Asitonka Tende as Vice Chairman and Comrade Gershon Abraham as Secretary. Patrick Chinda (Assistant Secretary), Zobari Nnodee (Treasurer), Lawrence Kalaiyo (NEC Member) and Alou Ochu (Special Female Representative) were also elected, with additional appointees bringing the total to 17.

The FOT District elected Comrade Adams Majesty as Chairman, supported by Comrade Jackson Osarobey (Vice Chairman) and Comrade Dokuboye Bob Manuel (Secretary). Other officers include Osarobey David (Assistant Secretary), Timothy Egele (Treasurer), Prince David (NEC Member) and Modesta Uzoagba (Special Female Representative), with other appointed members totaling 16.

In the OMT District, Comrade Anyomi Joseph emerged Chairman, with Comrade Fyne Anabs as Vice Chairman and Comrade Gift Iwaritaribi as Secretary. Other officers include Timothy Egele (Assistant Secretary), Cletus Enyia (Treasurer), Monday Penury (NEC Member) and Blessing Nwankwo (Special Female Representative), with additional appointees bringing the number to 14.

The INTELS District elected Comrade Ohaka Nwabueze as Chairman, with Comrade Timothy Inetianbor as Vice Chairman and Comrade Freddie Jack as Secretary. Others include Iheanyichukwu Emmanuel (Assistant Secretary), Offong Amanam (Treasurer), Daniel Akpiri (NEC Member) and Pearl Owatogbe Egbe (Special Female Representative), alongside other appointed officers numbering 12.

For Port Harcourt District One, Comrade Gwuene Nkabono emerged Chairman, supported by Comrade Chukwudi Asoguh (Vice Chairman) and Comrade Abdulmalik Haruna (Secretary). Other officers include Tamunokuro Dagogo (Assistant Secretary), Iminabo Amachree (Treasurer), Tajudeen Owolabi (NEC Member) and Beatrice Ifeanyi (Special Female Representative), with additional appointees totaling 16.

In Port Harcourt District Two, Comrade Ebitenga Soye Perri was elected Chairman, with Comrade Tonye Phillips as Vice Chairman and Comrade Oyika Amos as Secretary. Other officials include Abiye Dokubo (Assistant Secretary), Minabiye Dauphin (Treasurer), Isaac Evinson (NEC Member) and Precious Oghu (Special Female Representative), with other appointees numbering 16.

The Bonny District elected Comrade Daddy Weeks as Chairman, alongside Comrade Dappa Ajaladeg (Vice Chairman) and Comrade Alex Onwuka (Secretary). Others include Ekandem Michael Virtus (Assistant Secretary), Cunningham Green (Treasurer), Beauty Don Pedro (Special Female Representative) and Ezekiel Thomas (NEC Member), with additional appointees totaling 13.

Congratulating the newly elected and appointed officers, MWUN President General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, urged them to uphold discipline, transparency and strict adherence to the Union’s Constitution in the discharge of their duties. He cautioned that the era of double standards was over, stressing that all members—elected, appointed or otherwise must play by the rules.

Bunu assured the new executives of the Union’s full support, while warning that any form of misconduct would attract decisive sanctions. He also commended the Dockworkers’ Branch leadership, particularly its President, Comrade Agboola Bolaji, for his exemplary conduct throughout the election process.

The MWUN President General further assured members that elections in the remaining districts would be conducted in the same transparent manner, adding that newly elected executives are expected to commence work immediately after their swearing-in.

In their responses, the newly elected district executives expressed appreciation to Comrade Bunu and the national leadership of MWUN for ensuring openness, fairness and justice throughout the electoral process, pledging not to disappoint the Union in their respective assignments.
