The Commander of the Materials Clearing and Inspection Office (MCIO), Nigerian Navy Apapa, Captain U.S. Akoh, on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Customs Service, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Area Command in Lagos, reinforcing inter-agency collaboration on maritime security and trade facilitation.

The visit provided a platform for both agencies to explore strategies for enhancing cooperation in port operations, cargo monitoring, intelligence sharing, and overall maritime safety.

During the meeting, Akoh stressed the importance of sustained synergy among government institutions, describing them as interconnected parts of a single system that must function collectively to achieve national goals. He commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its professionalism and consistent efforts in trade facilitation and revenue generation.

According to him, stronger collaboration between security and regulatory agencies remains critical to safeguarding Nigeria’s economic interests and ensuring seamless port operations.

In his response, the Customs Area Controller of the KLT Command welcomed the Navy delegation and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Nigerian Navy and other stakeholders.

He noted that enhanced cooperation would further boost compliance, improve operational efficiency, and reinforce security within the maritime domain.

The visit concluded with the exchange of plaques, symbolising mutual respect and a renewed commitment by both agencies to deepen collaboration in pursuit of safer and more efficient port operations.
