The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and Landmark University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance meteorological research and deepen climate science education in Nigeria.

The partnership aims to enhance climate data collection and analysis, promote environmental resilience, and support sustainable national development.

“We are committed to improving data-driven predictions and early warning systems,” said Director General/CEO of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike.

“This collaboration will support research in key areas such as drought monitoring, flood analysis, and agricultural planning”.

Pro-Chancellor of Landmark University, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oyeniyi, emphasised the institution’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for joint research activities. “The university will actively participate in research collaborations, staff exchange programs, and community outreach efforts aimed at translating scientific findings into practical solutions for farmers, policymakers, and local communities”.

The partnership highlights the importance of strong collaborations between academic institutions and government agencies in addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development.

By combining NiMet’s technical expertise with Landmark University’s research strength, the collaboration aims to support a more robust framework for climate monitoring, education, and innovation across Nigeria.
