The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has announced a major milestone for Nigeria’s energy sector, revealing that the Dangote Refinery exported over 500,000 tonnes of petroleum products to various African countries in March 2026 alone.
This landmark achievement reinforces Nigeria’s growing reputation as a strategic energy hub on the continent. The NPA attributed the seamless execution of these exports to its enhanced operational efficiency and unwavering commitment to trade facilitation, which continue to strengthen the nation’s expanding energy capacity.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement in Lagos, Managing Director of the NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, highlighted Nigeria’s resilience amid global energy disruptions. Despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East affecting global petroleum supply chains, he affirmed that Nigeria has remained steady, ensuring consistent supply for both domestic consumption and export markets.
He noted that this stability places Nigeria in a unique position globally, as many countries continue to grapple with energy shortages and shifting operational realities. According to him, Nigeria’s ability to maintain supply underscores its emergence as a dependable energy player in Africa.
Dantsoho further credited the success of the export operations to the implementation of the One-Stop-Shop (OSS) policy, an initiative championed by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola. The policy has streamlined processes at the Dangote Refinery by aligning all stakeholders under a unified operational framework, significantly improving coordination and efficiency.
Describing the OSS as a transformative initiative, Dantsoho said it has eliminated bottlenecks and fostered collaboration across agencies—mirroring the effectiveness of the National Single Window system. This synergy has been instrumental in accelerating export activities and boosting overall sector performance.
Within just one month, the export of over 500,000 tonnes of refined petroleum products stands as a testament to Nigeria’s growing logistical strength and industrial capacity. The NPA’s expertise in port and cargo management ensured efficient vessel handling, enabling smooth and timely shipments to international markets.
With sustained policy support and institutional coordination, the NPA continues to play a pivotal role in advancing Nigeria’s energy ambitions, positioning the country as a leading force in Africa’s evolving energy landscape.
