
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the Aviation Industry in Nigeria, Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, has conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree (Doctor of Business Administration, Honoris Causa) on Captain Edward Boyo, Chief Executive Officer of Landover Company Limited and Managing Director of Overland Airways Limited.
The conferment took place during the University’s 20th Convocation Ceremony, held at the Bowen University Auditorium in Iwo, Osun State, on November 1, 2025. The event was attended by dignitaries from across Nigeria, including the Oluwo of Iwo Land, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, family and friends of Capt. Boyo, as well as management representatives from Landover Company and Overland Airways.
In awarding the honorary degree, Bowen University described Boyo as a visionary leader and industry pioneer “whose outstanding contributions to the aviation sector continue to inspire excellence, innovation, and leadership”.
With decades of experience in the aviation sector, Boyo has demonstrated exemplary leadership, driving Overland Airways to become one of Nigeria’s most reliable and service-oriented airlines. Under his leadership, the airline has expanded connectivity across Nigeria and West Africa while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
In his acceptance speech, Boyo expressed deep appreciation for the honour, saying: “I am deeply delighted to receive this recognition and extend my gratitude to the leadership of Bowen University for this honour.
This award will further inspire me to continue contributing to Nigeria’s air transport industry and the national economy. I assure the Bowen University community that I will remain a worthy ambassador of this great institution—committed to excellence, investing in people, and advancing our aviation sector”.

As part of the convocation ceremony, Boyo celebrated excellence by awarding Miss. Lotechukwu Ikpo, the overall best graduating student from the Department of Economics with a perfect 5.00 CGPA, a cash prize and a scholarship for her Master’s degree programme.
Boyo’s influence in the aviation industry extends beyond Nigeria. He serves as the Ambassador for West Africa for the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), a flagship initiative of the African Union (AU) aimed at liberalising air transport across the continent.
He is also the Founder and CEO of Overland Airways, a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), offering both scheduled and charter services across Nigeria and West Africa.
Overland Airways is known for pioneering air connectivity to underserved regions, supporting regional development through reliable and safe air transport.
Additionally, Boyo is the Founder and Managing Director of Landover Company Limited, a leading aviation services organisation headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria, with over three decades of excellence in providing aviation support solutions across Africa.
