Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, has made significant progress on the Bodo-Bonny Road project despite torrential rainfalls on the construction site.

The 35.7km road project, which includes 13 bridges, is a crucial infrastructure development aimed at connecting oil-rich Bonny Island to mainland Rivers State.

According to the Project Manager, Tim Nippert, 80 per cent of the project has been completed, with all bridges substantially completed except for pavement joints. Binder installation is 70 per cent completed, while 5.2 km of concrete pavement within Bonny Town is finished. Stone pitching is ongoing, and an additional 5km approaching asphalt road is 80 per cent completed with asphalt binder, awaiting only the wearing course and slope protection for completion.

The project has faced challenges due to the ceaseless rain in the area, which affects certain aspects of the work. However, Nippert emphasised the team’s determination to deliver the project on schedule, saying, “We are working with grit and determination. It’s all about our ability to persevere and our passion to deliver on our set goals”.

The Bodo-Bonny Road project is expected to be completed by December 2025, with a total cost of N280 billion approved by the federal government. The project’s timely completion will likely have a significant impact on the region’s economic growth and development.

Security Coordinator, Abraham Ikhenoba praised the workers’ dedication, stating that the ongoing rain has not stopped them from giving their best. Even with challenging terrains, every hand is on deck, he added, highlighting the company’s commitment to quality construction.
