The Women in Aviation International (WAI) Lagos branch joined forces with the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to celebrate World Youth Skills Day on July 16, 2025 both in Lagos and Abuja.

The programme, themed “Youth Empowerment Through AI and Digital Skills” with the topic “Smart Skills for a Smart Future: Youth in the Age of AI,” was held at the FAAN Training School (Transit Camp).

The one-day event featured speakers who mentored young minds on skill acquisition, AI concepts, benefits, and uses. Dr. Mrs. Rejoice Ndudinachi, President of WAI Nigeria Chapter, expressed gratitude to the speakers, organisers, and participants for making the programme a success.

The celebration aligns with the United Nations’ declaration of July 15 as World Youth Skills Day in 2014, aimed at equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship. The program’s focus on AI and digital skills is designed to empower young people for a smart future in the jet age.

WAI’s initiative is a step towards bridging the skills gap and preparing young people for the demands of the modern workforce. By providing a platform for young minds to acquire smart skills, WAI is contributing to the development of a new generation of innovators and leaders.

The event’s success is a testament to WAI’s commitment to youth empowerment and its role in shaping the future of aviation and beyond.

As the world continues to evolve, initiatives like this will play a crucial role in equipping young people with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly complex and technological world.
