
The Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to ethical transparency, and institutional accountability with the declaration of the 6th Peer Review Conference of Chairpersons and Secretaries of Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units (ACTUs) of agencies under the Ministry.
Declaring the conference open, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, Mrs. Fatima Sugra Mahmood—represented by the Deputy Director, Special Duties, Mrs. Comfort Madichi—described the Lagos gathering as a strategic platform for institutional self-assessment, knowledge sharing, and collaborative action aimed at strengthening anti-corruption mechanisms across the maritime sector.

In his welcome address, the Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, represented by the Agency’s Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Mr. Chudi Offodile, expressed delight at hosting the 6th edition of the ACTU Peer Review Conference.
He emphasised that the conference theme, “Advancing Ethical Reforms: Institutionalising Integrity and Sustained Ethical Governance”, highlights the pivotal role of ACTUs in driving preventive anti-corruption strategies and institutional reforms.
Offodile noted that ethical governance must be intentional, structured, and embedded within internal systems through stronger accountability frameworks and the effective deployment of technology to block leakages and enhance service delivery.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, represented by the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner for Lagos State, Mr. Alexander Chukwurah commended agencies under the Ministry for embracing the peer review process as a practical tool for strengthening integrity and compliance standards.
The conference further reinforces the Ministry’s resolve to institutionalize transparency and sustain ethical governance across the marine and blue economy value chain.
