The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Dr. Allen Onyema, has commended Fidelity Bank Plc for successfully repaying its US$400 million Eurobond at maturity, describing the achievement as a testament to financial resilience, institutional discipline and strategic leadership.
Onyema, in a congratulatory message issued on behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of Air Peace Limited, praised the bank for fulfilling its obligations throughout the five-year tenure of the Eurobond, particularly its decision to settle the debt entirely from internal liquidity.
He attributed the milestone to the strategic foresight and leadership of Fidelity Bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, noting that her stewardship has continued to enhance the institution’s financial strength and reputation within Nigeria’s banking sector.
The Air Peace boss also applauded the bank for successfully completing its recapitalisation ahead of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s stipulated deadline, describing the twin achievements as clear indications of sound corporate governance, prudent financial management and long-term institutional sustainability.
Highlighting the strategic relationship between banking and aviation, Onyema stressed the importance of financially robust institutions such as Fidelity Bank in supporting capital-intensive sectors of the economy.
He noted that access to sustainable financing remains critical to aviation development, particularly in areas such as fleet expansion, operational sustainability and overall industry growth.
According to him, strong partnerships between financial institutions and indigenous businesses are essential to enhancing Nigeria’s economic competitiveness and advancing the country’s broader development objectives.
Onyema congratulated Onyeali-Ikpe, the Board, Management and entire Fidelity Bank workforce on the achievement, expressing confidence in the institution’s ability to record even greater milestones.
He also reaffirmed Air Peace’s goodwill towards the bank, wishing it continued growth, financial stability and greater accomplishments in Nigeria’s financial services industry.
