The Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Chris Najomo, has commended the growing contributions of women to the development of Nigeria’s aviation sector, reaffirming the authority’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for female professionals in the industry.
In a message to mark the International Women’s Day 2026, Najomo noted that women have continued to play vital roles across the aviation value chain, from flight operations and aircraft engineering to air traffic management, safety oversight and regulatory leadership.
He stressed that under his leadership, the NCAA will continue to promote gender inclusion while encouraging stakeholders across the aviation ecosystem to strengthen their commitment to equality and empowerment.
According to a statement issued by the NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, the Director-General described women as key drivers of innovation, safety and resilience within the aviation industry.
“Women are central to the safety, innovation and resilience of aviation. Today we honour their achievements and reiterate our duty to remove barriers, expand opportunities and ensure that talent not gender determines advancement in this industry”, Najomo said.
He added that celebrating women in aviation must go beyond recognition and translate into deliberate action through investment in training, mentorship and fair workplace practices.
“By investing in training and talent, removing systemic obstacles, and promoting mentorship and equitable workplace practices, we will build a stronger, safer and more inclusive aviation sector that benefits everyone”, he added.
Speaking further on the theme of the 2026 International Women’s Day, the NCAA boss said the agency’s commitment to providing equal opportunities aligns with the campaign theme “Give to Gain,” which emphasises the value of support, mentorship and shared progress.
Najomo also acknowledged the achievements of outstanding female professionals across the aviation industry, including those within the NCAA and partner organisations, praising their leadership, technical expertise and contributions to the growth of the sector.
