Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, on Monday led a high-level delegation to receive former President Olusegun Obasanjo at the ongoing African Air Transport Convention and Expo 2026 in Lomé, Republic of Togo.

The high-profile convention has drawn leading aviation policymakers, regulators, industry executives, and development partners from across the continent, providing a strategic platform to advance air connectivity, regional integration, and sustainable aviation growth in Africa.

Obasanjo’s participation underscores his longstanding commitment to Africa’s economic integration and his advocacy for aviation as a critical driver of trade, tourism, and development.

Also at the event were President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé of Togo and President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, alongside other prominent African leaders and global stakeholders.

Nigeria’s delegation reflects its influential role in shaping Africa’s aviation future. Among the delegates are Mrs. Adefunke Adeyemi, Secretary General of the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC); Captain Juan “Boyo” Olubodun, SAATM Ambassador for the Western Region; and Captain Chris Najomo, Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), among others.

Speaking on the sidelines, the Minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s strong commitment to the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), noting that improved air connectivity is vital to unlocking the continent’s economic potential.

He emphasised that Nigeria will continue collaborating with African nations and aviation institutions to promote policies that strengthen infrastructure, attract investment, and enable seamless movement of people and goods across the continent.

The African Air Transport Convention and Expo 2026 continues with high-level engagements, technical sessions, and bilateral meetings aimed at accelerating the transformation of Africa’s aviation sector into a globally competitive and integrated network.
