The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has unveiled its Strategic Plan for 2026 to 2030, setting out a bold roadmap to enhance performance, service delivery, and climate resilience nationwide.
Speaking at the launch, the Director-General/CEO of NiMet and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the World Meteorological Organisation, Charles Anosike, described the plan as a significant milestone in the agency’s evolution, noting its legacy of over 140 years in safeguarding lives and property through weather and climate services.
He explained that the new strategy is built on a Balanced Scorecard framework designed to align NiMet’s operations with Nigeria’s broader national development goals.
“NiMet is implementing a comprehensive Strategic Plan (2026–2030) as a performance management roadmap to align its weather and climate services with Nigeria’s national vision”, Anosike said. “As we operationalise this plan, NiMet is set to become the first public institution in Nigeria’s aviation sector to fully institutionalise this world-class system”.

According to him, the plan is anchored on five key pillars: employee growth and development, strategic partnerships, technology and innovation, quality service delivery, and revenue diversification.
The initiative also reflects NiMet’s performance under the Federal Government’s results-driven governance framework coordinated by the Central Results Delivery Coordination Unit, established under the administration of President Bola Tinubu to strengthen accountability across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies through performance bonds and results-based budgeting.
Also speaking at the event, Kayode Sufianu, Managing Consultant/CEO of Balanced Scorecard West Africa, commended NiMet for adopting the Balanced Scorecard approach, describing it as a globally recognised framework that helps organisations translate strategy into measurable outcomes across stakeholders, financial performance, internal processes, and organisational capacity.

As part of the rollout, the agency also introduced a refreshed set of core values captured in the acronym I-PACE—Integrity, Professionalism, Accountability, Commitment, and Excellence—which will guide implementation of the strategic plan.
NiMet said the new roadmap is expected to strengthen institutional efficiency, improve service delivery, and position the agency to better support national development through accurate and reliable weather and climate intelligence.
