Technology firm SITA has introduced SITA Bag Radar, a cloud-based platform that transforms operational baggage data into actionable, real-time intelligence across the entire baggage journey.

With this, airlines, airports, and ground handlers can now detect potential baggage disruptions earlier with the launch of a new predictive analytics solution designed to improve operational efficiency and passenger experience.

Baggage mishandling remains one of the most visible and costly challenges in global air transport. While vast amounts of operational data are generated daily, much of it has traditionally been used only after disruptions occur. SITA Bag Radar changes this approach by combining historical analysis, real-time monitoring, and AI-driven predictive insights to identify risks before they escalate.

“Airlines and airports already generate huge volumes of baggage data every day, but much of that information has historically been used to investigate problems after disruption has already happened”, said Nicole Hogg.

“With growing passenger demand, operations teams need earlier visibility to act before issues like missed connections or bottlenecks result in mishandled bags”.

The solution integrates with existing systems, including baggage information messages (BIMs), WorldTracer, Baggage Reconciliation Systems (BRS), and Departure Control Systems (DCS), while also supporting selected third-party platforms. It consolidates these multiple data streams into a single cloud-based environment, offering end-to-end visibility.

Through intuitive web-based dashboards, operational teams can quickly identify emerging risks such as missed connections, mishandled baggage, and system bottlenecks—enabling timely intervention.

By addressing issues before they escalate, the platform is expected to significantly reduce mishandled baggage rates, improve operational performance, and lower compensation and handling costs, while enhancing passenger satisfaction.

SITA noted that the solution is designed for seamless deployment, allowing organisations to integrate it with existing infrastructure without major investment. Users can start with historical analytics and gradually scale to real-time and predictive capabilities, whether at individual stations or across entire networks.

The launch marks a significant step toward smarter, data-driven baggage management in the aviation industry.
