The Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) branch, has elected new executives, with Comrade (Alhaji) Anifowose Gafar emerging as Chairman.
A total of 478 members participated in the exercise, with 268 accredited voters casting their ballots. Anifowose secured all 268 votes cast for the chairmanship position, while the Vice Chairman, Comrade Victor Ifedayo, polled 267 votes.
Other elected officials include Comrade Obasi Ugwumba as Secretary with 268 votes; Comrade Balogun Olubunmi Esther as Assistant Secretary with 244 votes; Comrade Kingsley Okechukwu Uzoamaka as Treasurer with 266 votes; and Comrade Esuruoso Olayinka Ajibola as Financial Secretary with 267 votes. Comrade Yasir Yaqub Alhassan emerged as Public Relations Officer (PRO) with 258 votes.
In his acceptance speech, Anifowose described his victory as a collective mandate, stressing that it reflects the shared aspirations of members for a stronger and more progressive union rather than a personal triumph.
He pledged to lead with transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness, with a focus on prioritising the welfare, rights, and dignity of members. According to him, these ideals will serve as the guiding principles of his administration, anchored on fairness, courage, and justice.
The new Chairman commended the Electoral Committee for conducting what he described as a credible and transparent process, noting that it has strengthened confidence in the union’s democratic system.
He also expressed appreciation to the National President of ATSSSAN and Principal National Officers (PNOs) within the NCAA for their continued support and leadership, which he said are vital to the growth and stability of the branch.
Calling for unity, Anifowose urged members to move beyond election differences and work together in the collective interest of the union, emphasising that there is no victor or vanquished, but comrades united by a common purpose.
He further extended a hand of partnership to NCAA management, led by Capt. Chris Najomo, reaffirming the union’s commitment to constructive engagement through dialogue, mutual respect, and the protection of workers’ rights.
The newly elected leadership is expected to focus on strengthening the union and advancing the welfare of its members.
