Nigeria has strengthened its international aviation partnerships with the signing of a revised Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) with Morocco, as the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, intensified high-level engagements with global stakeholders.
The agreement was signed in Marrakech during the ongoing Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS), marking a significant step in boosting air connectivity and cooperation between both countries.
On the sidelines of the event, the minister held strategic talks with the leadership of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), including a meeting with its Council President, Toshiyuki Onuma. The ICAO chief commended Nigeria’s progress in developing its Civil Aviation Masterplan and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting the country in key areas such as workforce development, capacity building, and aviation sector reforms.
Keyamo, in response, reiterated Nigeria’s alignment with global aviation standards and its commitment to building a safe, secure, and sustainable air transport system.

Further engagements were held with the European Union delegation, where both sides explored opportunities to expand technical cooperation, strengthen safety oversight, and enhance institutional collaboration within Nigeria’s aviation industry.
The newly signed BASA with Morocco is expected to open up fresh opportunities for airlines, airports, and regulators, while also promoting trade, tourism, and investment between the two nations. The agreement aligns with broader continental aviation goals and reinforces commitments to safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

The development underscores Nigeria’s ongoing push to modernise its aviation sector and deepen global partnerships.
