The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr. Kayode Opeifa, has reaffirmed his administration’s strong commitment to continuous training and retraining of railway personnel as a cornerstone for improved service delivery and global competitiveness.
Opeifa made this known while interacting with the Corporation’s delegation attending the ongoing Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Week and Annual General Meeting in Kaduna. He emphasised that sustained investment in human capital development remains critical to enhancing professional competence and aligning the workforce with international best practices.
He expressed optimism that participation in the conference would equip delegates with the skills, knowledge, and expertise required to excel in their respective roles and contribute meaningfully to the Corporation’s transformation agenda.
Earlier, the Corporation’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, commended the Managing Director and the management team for their consistent support toward capacity building within the Public Relations Department. He noted that the annual gathering provides a valuable platform for engagement with professionals across government agencies and private institutions, ultimately enhancing service efficiency.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Managing Director on Media and Communication, Yinka Aderibigbe, described this year’s event as highly impactful, citing its rich intellectual engagements. He lauded Opeifa’s unwavering dedication to human resource development across all arms of the Corporation.
The event was formally declared open by Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, alongside the Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, and other top government officials, including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris.
In his welcome address, the National President of the NIPR, Ike Neliaku, said the institute is better positioned than ever to project Nigeria’s positive narratives, urging citizens to recognise the country’s ongoing progress despite prevailing challenges.
Chairman of the event’s Organising Committee, Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, described the conference as an eye-opener for over 2,000 delegates, adding that participants experienced firsthand that security concerns in parts of northern Nigeria are often overstated.
He also praised Governor Sani’s infrastructural strides, noting improved confidence in mobility within Kaduna.
Members of the NRC delegation included Onyedikachi Stanley Onovo, alongside senior public relations officers Efunuga Bunmi Kubrat, Agbadegbe Ileogba Stella, and Salihu Usman.
