In a major boost to intercontinental travel, Air Peace has inaugurated a direct flight service linking Lagos to Barbados, marking a significant milestone in strengthening air connectivity between Africa and the Caribbean.

The airline successfully operated its first scheduled commercial flight on May 24, 2026, deploying its Boeing 777 aircraft for the landmark journey. The flight departed Lagos with over 284 passengers on board, reflecting strong demand for a more seamless travel option between Nigeria and the Caribbean.

Onboard were key dignitaries and notable personalities, including Air Peace Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Nowel Ngala; Barbados’ High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ghana and Liberia, Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland; and Nigerian actress, Temitope Olowoniyan, alongside other airline officials and passengers.

Beyond opening a new route, the direct service addresses longstanding travel challenges between both regions – particularly the inconvenience of multiple stopovers, extended transit times, and complex visa processes often associated with indirect flights.

The Lagos–Barbados connection is expected to significantly enhance accessibility for tourists, business travelers, diaspora communities, and cultural exchange programmes, offering a faster and more convenient alternative.

Aviation stakeholders have described the development as a bold step in Air Peace’s expanding international network and a strategic move to position Nigeria as a stronger aviation hub in Africa. The airline continues to prioritise routes that deliver practical value while improving connectivity across underserved markets.

Additionally, the new route is set to unlock opportunities in tourism, trade, and investment, while deepening cultural and people-to-people ties between West Africa and the Caribbean.

Following the successful inaugural flight, Air Peace has scheduled its first return service from Barbados to Lagos for May 25, with plans to operate twice monthly—establishing a growing air bridge between the two regions.
