The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has stepped up efforts to enhance security enforcement and judicial processes across the nation’s airports through a high-level engagement with justice sector stakeholders.
The forum, themed “Strengthening Arrest, Prosecution and Judicial Administration Within the Airport Environment”, brought together legal practitioners, security agencies, prosecutors, and key industry stakeholders to develop strategies for improving regulatory enforcement and justice delivery within airport facilities.
Representing the Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, the Director of Aviation Security Services, Afegbai Igbafe, emphasised the importance of effective law enforcement and strong inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding airport infrastructure and sustaining public confidence in Nigeria’s aviation system.
He noted that the airport environment must consistently reflect order, safety, discipline, and strict adherence to regulations, stressing that offences committed within such sensitive facilities must be treated with the seriousness they deserve due to their implications for national security and passenger confidence.
According to him, FAAN remains committed to protecting passengers, staff, and airport users, adding that this goal can only be achieved through closer synergy among Aviation Security (AVSEC), the Nigeria Police, prosecutors, and other relevant stakeholders.
Igbafe further highlighted the need to strengthen enforcement mechanisms to ensure full compliance with aviation laws, safety standards, and security regulations.
In her opening remarks, the Director of Legal Services, Bridget Gold, described the engagement as both timely and essential in addressing operational and legal challenges within airport administration.
She explained that the initiative aims to deepen stakeholders’ understanding of judicial processes in the aviation environment while clarifying the roles of security agencies, legal practitioners, and prosecutors in ensuring effective justice administration.
The engagement also featured technical presentations and interactive sessions led by legal experts and security agencies, focusing on improving arrest procedures, prosecution processes, and judicial coordination within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
The initiative is expected to strengthen cooperation, enhance regulatory compliance, and reinforce law and order across the country’s airports.
