Nigeria’s foremost automotive publication, Motoring World, on Thursday June 4, 2026, honoured notable industry figures, including the Managing Director of New Era Autovehicle Services, Chief Mrs. Kemi Koyejo, and the Motoring Editor of The Sun Newspaper, Mr. Moses Akaigwe, at its 30th anniversary celebration held at the MUSON Centre, Lagos.

Koyejo received the Motoring World Women in Auto Leadership Award, while Akaigwe was presented with the Auto Journalism Legacy Award in recognition of his enduring contributions to the sector.

The awards were presented by former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, during the event themed, “Celebrating Three Decades of Excellence in Automotive Journalism”.

In her acceptance remarks, Koyejo, a veteran automotive executive with over three decades of experience, expressed appreciation to the organisers, noting that the recognition would spur her to further contributions in the industry.

“This award is a strong encouragement to continue. When we started, the number of women in the industry was very small. We were just a handful in a male-dominated sector”, she said.

She also commended automotive journalists for their professionalism over the years, describing them as partners who evolved into a supportive community throughout her career.

Akaigwe, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Auto Journalists Association (NAJA), in his response, thanked the organisers for the honour, describing it as deeply meaningful.

“I sincerely appreciate Femi Owoeye and Motoring World for this recognition. It is one I will cherish for as long as I live, coming from a respected colleague who understands the demands of the motoring beat”, he said.

He noted that despite years of dedication to promoting Nigeria’s automotive industry through impactful editorial work, the award marked his first formal recognition within the country.

“I dedicate this honour to younger colleagues who will be inspired to strive for excellence, knowing their efforts will one day be recognised”, he added.

Earlier in his welcome address, Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of Motoring World Communications Limited, Mr. Femi Owoeye, explained that awardees were selected based on their outstanding contributions to the automotive industry.

Owoeye also announced plans to launch an Automotive Journalism Development Programme aimed at nurturing the next generation of motoring journalists in Nigeria.

According to him, the initiative will strengthen professionalism, deepen industry knowledge and promote developmental journalism that supports the growth of the automotive sector.

“The Nigerian automotive industry is at a defining moment, with opportunities spanning local manufacturing, skills development, technology transfer, electric mobility and transportation reforms”, he said.

He stressed that unlocking the sector’s full potential would require stronger collaboration among stakeholders, consistent policy support and improved communication across the value chain.

Owoeye further disclosed that Motoring World would intensify advocacy for policies that promote local production, investment, road safety and sustainable mobility, while continuing to serve as a bridge between policymakers, regulators and industry players.

In another development, he announced the resumption of the publication’s full quarterly print edition, citing renewed stakeholder support and confidence in the future of the industry.

Reflecting on the publication’s 30-year journey, Owoeye expressed gratitude to partners, advertisers, readers and stakeholders who sustained the platform through challenging periods.

He described the anniversary as a moment of reflection, celebration and renewed commitment to advancing Nigeria’s automotive industry.

The event attracted key players from the automotive sector, government officials, regulators, transport experts and media practitioners, all gathered to celebrate Motoring World’s enduring contributions to the development of the nation’s motoring industry.
