The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) are exploring a strategic partnership to integrate meteorological expertise, weather intelligence and climate services into military training, research and operational planning.
The initiative emerged during a courtesy visit by the Academy Provost of the NDA, Professor BJ. Ajibuah, to the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, October 22, 2026.
The meeting focused on strengthening institutional relations and identifying areas of mutual interest, particularly meteorological training, research and capacity development.
Discussions also explored ways of incorporating weather and climate information into military training and operational planning to enhance informed decision-making and improve operational effectiveness.
Other areas identified for possible collaboration include specialised training programmes, professional development, joint research and knowledge exchange to strengthen the technical capabilities of personnel in both institutions.
As part of efforts to translate the discussions into concrete initiatives, the two institutions considered the possibility of establishing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide a formal framework for sustained cooperation, define priority areas and facilitate mutually beneficial engagements.
The proposed partnership underscores the strategic importance of meteorological intelligence in national security and highlights the value of inter-institutional collaboration in building professional capacity and advancing Nigeria’s broader development objectives.
