Prince Olayiwola Shittu (L) & CGC Adewale Adeniyi (R)

All roads lead to the Lagos Airport Hotel this evening as a former National President of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) and Chairman of Skelas Group, Prince Olayiwola Shittu, leads maritime industry stakeholders to the much-anticipated award dinner being organised by Nigerian Maritime Journalists to honour the excellent performance of the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi.

The event, which will hold at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Awolowo Road, Ikeja, Lagos State, by 6pm today Thursday February 13, is expected to have the creme de la creme of the maritime industry, from the CEOs of government agencies to freight forwarding bigwigs, top ship owners, terminal operators, shipping lines, and regulators, among others.

Nigerian Maritime Journalists, comprising all the associations covering the maritime beat, have come together to honour the Customs CG as the “Iconic Maritime Personality of the year 2024.”

The need for the Nigerian maritime media practitioners to honour the CGC is a unanimous decision by all maritime journalists, cutting across print, electronic and online media, led by the different beat associations.

These include the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), League of Maritime Editors (LOME), Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON), Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria (MAJAN), Shipping Correspondents Association of Nigeria (SCAN), Online Maritime Media Association of Nigeria (OMMAN) and Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP), as well as those who do not belong to any association.

These journalists believe that CG Adeniyi has registered a sterling and excellent performance since assumption of office as the Customs Comptroller General.

The performance reflects in unprecedented revenue collection, anti-smuggling activities, trade facilitation, national security, staff welfare, inter-agency collaboration, infrastructural upgrade, Information and Communication Technology, and Corporate Social Responsibility, among others.

The organisers, beside this superlative performance, also appreciate the Customs boss’ unrelenting support to the media, especially the maritime media.
