CAC Tin Can Island Customs, Dera Nnadi (L) and the President of MARAN (R).

Customs Area Controller (CAC), Tin Can Island Command, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, has inducted the President of Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), Mr. Godfrey Bibvere,

as Time Release Study ( TRS) Ambassador.

The induction ceremony which took place on Friday, July 12 at the Association’s World Press Secretariat situated at No. 13c  Marine Road Apapa GRA, in Lagos was electric.

Bibvere, a seasoned maritime journalist, was selected for this role due to his extensive knowledge and experience in trade facilitation and Customs procedures. 

As TRS Ambassador, he will play a crucial role in promoting the use of TRS, a tool used to measure the efficiency of Customs procedures and identify areas for improvement.

World Customs Organisation (WCO) assisted TRS was launched in Tin Can Island Port (TICP) in February 2024 to determine the length of time it takes to clear cargo at the Port. 

Tin can Port according to Nnadi was chosen for the TRS because of the delay in cargo release which the Port was already known for.

Nnadi in his remarks, emphasised the importance of TRS in enhancing trade facilitation and revenue collection. 

He charged Bibvere to use his expertise to promote the adoption of TRS by all stakeholders in the trade chain.

The MARAN President in his acceptance speech, thanked the Tin Can Controller and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for the honour, and pledged to work tirelessly to promote TRS as well as improve Nigeria’s trade facilitation landscape.

The induction ceremony which took place at the MARAN Secretariat was also witnessed by Customs officials from Tin Can port and various journalists covering the maritime beat in Nigeria.
