The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Oyo/Osun Area Command, has recorded major operational breakthroughs with seizures valued at over ₦2.7 billion and a strong revenue performance that surpassed its 2025 target.

Acting Customs Area Controller of the Command, Deputy Comptroller Wale Adewole, disclosed this during his maiden press briefing for 2026, where he outlined the Command’s achievements in revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations and economic protection.

Adewole said that within one month of his assumption of office, the Command intercepted contraband items with a cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦2,701,762,558.

Among the seized items were 2,234 bags of foreign parboiled rice valued at ₦385.2 million; 1,112 used tyres worth ₦256.3 million; 562 kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) valued at ₦33.6 million; and 124 bales of used clothes with a DPV of ₦782.4 million.

Other seizures included 42 sacks of used shoes valued at ₦424.5 million; pharmaceuticals worth ₦119.1 million; 110 cartons of foreign spaghetti; used compressors; cannabis sativa, codeine syrup and tramadol.

The Command also intercepted five smuggled vehicles including Toyota Camry, Hyundai Sonata, Hyundai Jeep, Chevrolet EQ and Mercedes GLE, alongside means of conveyance such as a Volvo truck, a Volkswagen bus and three J5 buses used in smuggling operations.

According to Adewole, the seizures were made across various flashpoints within the Command’s area of responsibility through credible intelligence, sustained patrols and targeted enforcement operations.

“These operational successes align with the Service’s mandate of revenue generation, suppression of smuggling and protection of the national economy”, he said.

On revenue performance, Adewole revealed that the Command generated ₦8.37 billion in December 2025 alone. He added that the Command exceeded its 2025 annual revenue target of ₦86.29 billion by ₦13.13 billion, representing a 15.22 per cent increase. He attributed the achievement to improved compliance, effective monitoring and the commitment of officers to lawful trade facilitation.

“The Oyo/Osun Area Command remains committed to zero tolerance for smuggling and all forms of economic disruption. We will continue to collaborate with sister security agencies and engage stakeholders to safeguard national economic security”, Adewole stated.

He warned smugglers and unpatriotic elements to desist from illegal activities, stressing that the Command would not relent in carrying out its statutory responsibilities.

Adewole also commended the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his support, appreciated stakeholders for their cooperation, and thanked the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for his leadership.

He further acknowledged the media for timely dissemination of information and continued partnership with the Service.
