Former Cross River State Commissioner for Tourism, Eric Anderson, has expressed strong confidence in Diamond Band’s readiness to make a major impact at Carnival Calabar 2025, promising an outing filled with creativity, energy, and surprises.

Anderson, who leads Diamond Band—one of the two new bands introduced four years ago said the team is fully prepared to challenge for the coveted Carnival Calabar title this year.

Ready and Refined

According to Anderson, Diamond Band has demonstrated exceptional commitment during its three dry runs, showing not just a hunger to win but a clear determination to elevate the overall carnival experience.

“The best of us, every year, adds up and fine-tunes who we are. This year, we have shown intense seriousness not just gearing up for victory, but also to entertain and add value to the carnival”, he said.

Consistent Contenders

Now in its fourth outing, Diamond Band has steadily built a reputation as a strong competitor. Anderson noted that the band has remained relevant and competitive since inception and is determined to mark the carnival’s 20th anniversary in grand style.

“We are here to celebrate 20 years of uniqueness. Be rest assured, we are coming out stronger than ever and ready to spring surprises”, he added.

Royalty in Purple

Highlighting the band’s identity, Anderson described Diamond Band as “royalty”, symbolised by its signature purple colour. He emphasised the role of youthful leadership in driving innovation and sustaining the promotion of Carnival.

Calabar beyond the parade routes

“Diamond Band has been at the forefront of keeping the carnival visible and relevant all year round,”, he said.

Carnival Calabar at 20

With Carnival Calabar marking its 20th edition in 2025, expectations are higher than ever. Anderson revealed that Diamond Band is investing extra energy, finesse, and creativity to complement the Cross River State Government’s efforts in delivering a world-class event.

A 20-Year Carnival Journey

Reflecting on his personal journey, Anderson recalled starting out as a reveller with Bayside Band in 2004, later becoming King of Freedom Band, and then the youngest Deputy Band Leader at Seagull Band. His experience expanded further when he managed the Governor’s Band as Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Development.

Following the expansion of carnival bands due to increased participation, Anderson was appointed a band leader, a role he now occupies as the youngest leader of Diamond Band.

“Today, I bring experience, passion, and purpose to the table. My goal is to work with a deserving team to deliver an innovative, creative, energetic, and sustainable Carnival Calabar with global competitiveness”, he concluded.
