Ethiopian Airlines, Boeing and Think Young, have strengthened their commitment to STEM education for Ethiopian and this year, 28 high school students in grade 11, with an impressive 50 per cent female participation, successfully completed the second edition of the STEM School programme, designed to equip them with critical skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).
The programme, which spans three years, targets underserved youth from various regions across Ethiopia, fostering their academic growth and interest in higher education. The selection process, conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, ensures that the most promising students are given the opportunity to excel.
Group Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines, Mr. Mesfin Tasew,stated: “By investing in the education of our youth, we are investing in the future of Ethiopia.
“This programme empowers the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers by providing them with the essential skills needed to thrive in the rapidly evolving technological landscape.”

During the programme, attendees were immersed in the core principles of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and enhanced their digital proficiency through learning coding, robotics, and artificial intelligence.
Concurrently, they honed vital soft skills, including collaborative teamwork and advanced problem-solving abilities.
A 17-year-old STEM School student, Bethel Teshome Sebsibe, shared her impression of the programme: “Thanks to the STEM School, I have learned things that I never thought I was interested in. The relationship we have built with the students and teachers is helping me learn and improve.”
The STEM School hosted by Ethiopian Aviation University and leveraging Ethiopian Airlines’ specialised knowledge, provided participants with exclusive access to the airline’s cargo, as well as maintenance, repair, and overhaul operations, offering a tangible perspective on the aviation sector.
The initiative is set to continue, welcoming a new cohort of Ethiopian students in the following year.
