The Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has carried out an on-the-spot inspection of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, to assess progress on the Temporary Terminal and car park under the ongoing Rehabilitation and Expansion Project.

The visit was aimed at ensuring the Authority is fully prepared to deliver an improved terminal experience for passengers as renovation works advance.

FAAN said the upgrade is being driven with the support of President Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and under the supervision of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo.

The project is being executed in two phases involving the remodelling of Terminal 1 and the extension of Terminal 2. As part of the transition, a Temporary Terminal has been completed and is expected to become operational shortly, starting with departure operations to enable airlines function seamlessly while major reconstruction continues.

To complement the arrangement, FAAN has also constructed a temporary car park and arrivals area, with improved road access to ease vehicular and passenger movement around the airport environment.

FAAN noted that Terminal 1 has served Nigeria for about 48 years without a comprehensive upgrade, making the current intervention long overdue.

According to the Authority, the modernisation programme is designed to transform MMIA into a facility that reflects Nigeria’s ambition and global standing.

It expressed confidence that upon completion, Nigerians and international travellers alike will experience a significantly enhanced, safer and more efficient Lagos airport.
