
An aircraft with registration number 5N-BZN experienced a nose-wheel malfunction while landing at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, on Thursday evening, November 20, 2025, prompting an immediate emergency response and the safe evacuation of all persons on board.
According to a statement signed by Mr. Henry Agbebire, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the incident occurred at about 19:10 hours when the aircraft, arriving from Lagos, developed a fault with its nose-landing gear upon touching down on Runway 08, leaving the aircraft immobile on the runway.
FAAN confirmed that emergency response teams were rapidly deployed in line with established safety procedures. Airport emergency units, including fire tenders and medical personnel, moved swiftly to secure the aerodrome and ensure the wellbeing of passengers, crew, and airport staff. All passengers and crew were safely disembarked and transported to the terminal using apron buses, with the evacuation completed at 19:48 hours without any injuries reported.
The airport’s Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) remained on standby to secure the aircraft and the affected section of the airside.
FAAN reiterated that the safety of passengers, crew, and all airport users remains its highest priority and assured the public that additional updates would be provided as more verified information emerges.
