In a bold show of commitment to operational excellence and infrastructure renewal, the Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), His Excellency, Dr. Umar Ganduje, on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, led members of the FAAN Board of Directors on an extensive inspection tour of the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA).
The high-powered delegation included the Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku; Board Secretary and Director of Legal Services, Mrs. Bridget Gold; and Board Members, Engr. Nasiru Muazu and Dr. Ahmad Suleiman. Also in attendance was the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Henry Agbebire, who provided insights on FAAN’s communication and stakeholder engagement strategies aligned with the Authority’s transformation agenda.
During the visit, the team undertook a comprehensive tour of the airside, terminal, and landside areas of the airport, inspecting critical infrastructure including the Fire Bay, Water Treatment Plant, and both the Domestic and International Terminals. The inspection also covered key operational areas vital to airport safety, passenger experience, and efficiency.
Ganduje commended FAAN management for its visible efforts in sustaining operational standards but emphasised the need for urgency in addressing infrastructure gaps. He directed the contractor handling the domestic terminal project to complete all outstanding works, including the VIP Lounge within two weeks, stressing that delays would no longer be tolerated.
“Operational excellence requires urgency, accountability, and precision. We must deliver airports that reflect Nigeria’s renewed commitment to efficiency and service quality”, Ganduje stated.
He reaffirmed the Board’s determination to ensure that all airports under FAAN’s management align with the Authority’s culture of excellence, transparency, and operational integrity.
The visit, which served as a homecoming for Ganduje, who served two terms as Governor of Kano State, was marked by optimism and a shared commitment among Board members and management to reposition Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport as a hub of pride and progress for Northern Nigeria.
FAAN reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to safety, infrastructure renewal, and superior service delivery across all its airports, in line with the strategic vision of the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo and the dynamic leadership of Kuku.
