In a landmark move towards environmental sustainability, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has partnered the Forest Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN) and the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) to plant over 20,000 indigenous tree seedlings at the Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment in Abuja. 

This initiative marks a significant contribution to Nigeria’s fight against deforestation, climate change, and biodiversity loss, while reaffirming Julius Berger’s commitment to responsible environmental stewardship and sustainable development.

The collaborative effort brought together stakeholders from the public, private, and military sectors, highlighting the importance of environmental protection in national security. Major General J.Y. Maina, representing the Chief of Army Staff, emphasised that environmental protection is inseparable from national security, as climate change, desertification, and environmental degradation pose long-term threats to the country’s stability. He praised Julius Berger’s leadership and commitment, calling the collaboration a shining example of how different sectors can work together for sustainable development.

The Nigerian Conservation Foundation’s “Green Recovery Nigeria” initiative aims to address the alarming rate of vegetation loss in the country, with less than 10 per cent of vegetation cover remaining. Julius Berger’s funding and coordination support were instrumental in the success of this tree-planting exercise. 

The company’s efforts were commended by stakeholders, including the Director-General of FRIN, Prof. Zacharia Yadura, and the Zonal Coordinator of NCF, Mr. Garba Boyi, who expressed gratitude for Julius Berger’s support in this vital initiative.

This partnership demonstrates the impact that can be achieved through collaborative efforts towards environmental sustainability and national security. By planting 20,000 trees, Julius Berger, FRIN, and NCF are contributing to a greener future for Nigeria, setting an example for others to follow.
