An act of integrity at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) has turned what could have been a traveller’s nightmare into a powerful story of honesty and professionalism.
Mr. Frank Omorojie, a casual worker in the Environment Department of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), discovered a lost purse at the departure hall of Terminal 2, near the RwandAir check-in counter.
Inside the purse were $1,700, a British passport, a Nigerian passport, and a credit card – items that could have easily been lost forever.
Without hesitation, Omorojie handed the purse over to Aviation Security (AVSEC) officials. Following due process, the items were properly documented and transferred to the Customer Service Department, which immediately made a public announcement.
Within minutes, the owner; a Nigerian female passenger who had already begun to fear the worst, was located and reunited with her belongings, all intact.
“I just did what was right”, Omorojie said, downplaying the moment that has since drawn commendation from colleagues and airport authorities.
The incident has been widely praised as a reflection of FAAN’s ongoing efforts to strengthen service delivery and promote global best practices across Nigeria’s aviation sector.
In an environment often challenged by public perception, the gesture stands out as a reminder that integrity still thrives quietly, but powerfully within the system.
