The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Secretary General, Arsenio Dominguez, is set to visit Nigeria from October 2nd to 4th, 2025, for a three-day working visit. 

This was revealed by the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, during a courtesy visit from the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command,

Rear Admiral Michael Gregory Oamen.Mobereola praised the long-standing collaboration between NIMASA and the Nigerian Navy, citing their joint efforts in reducing piracy and maritime crimes in Nigerian waters and the Gulf of Guinea as a model for other agencies and regional partners. 

“The visit of the Flag Officer Commanding,Western Naval Command is yet another demonstration of the deep and successful partnership between NIMASA and the Nigerian Navy, which has continued to yield positive outcomes for the maritime sector and the nation at large”, he stated. 

During his visit, the IMO Secretary General will tour Nigerian Navy installations and NIMASA facilities in Lagos, highlighting Nigeria’s maritime security efforts and international cooperation.

Oamen commended NIMASA’s management for their sustained collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, emphasising its importance for the growth and stability of the maritime sector. This visit aims to further strengthen maritime ties and promote cooperation between Nigeria and the IMO.
