The Airport Police Command has intercepted a 14-year-old boy, identified as Eke Miracle, in connection with a daring stowaway attempt at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, on Monday, March 30, 2026.

The teenager was discovered on the airport tarmac while allegedly trying to gain unlawful access beneath an aircraft—an act considered a serious breach of aviation security in a highly restricted operational zone.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the minor gained entry into a restricted area without authorisation, in violation of Sections 2 and 3 of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) byelaws, and engaged in actions consistent with a stowaway attempt.

Following his interception, the boy was taken into protective custody in line with established legal and child protection procedures. His parents were promptly notified, and all necessary protocols were observed, including conducting interviews in their presence. Authorities also ensured the minor received appropriate care and welfare support throughout the process.

The Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding critical aviation infrastructure, stressing that airports remain sensitive national assets requiring strict compliance with security regulations.

While assuring that due process will be followed, the Commissioner urged parents and guardians to be more vigilant about their children’s movements, especially around restricted and high-risk areas such as airports.

The Command added that the case will be handled in accordance with juvenile justice procedures, with the minor expected to be charged before a juvenile court.

It reiterated its resolve to maintain safety, security, and order within the aviation sector, while upholding the rights and welfare of all individuals, particularly minors.
