Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport yesterday apprehended a passenger with firearms.

According to a statement from NCS signed by the Public Relations Officer of the MMIA Command, DSC Victor Ogagbor, the officials while on routine examination at the ‘D’ wing of the arrival hall at about 1105 hours on 13th April 2022 intercepted a pistol and two magazines containing 26 rounds of ammunition in a baggage.

It explained that the baggage belongs to one Mr. Afolabi Olumide with Passport number B50120017who arrived from Washington DC via United Airlines.

The suspected persenger had earlier been accused by Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) of illegally being in possession of two International Passports.

Firearm importation contravenes Schedule 4 of the Customs and Excise and Management Act which is an Absolute Prohibition.

NCS MMIA Command has since handed over the suspect and the arms to the Department of States Services.
