MWUN Coop New President, Comrade Micah Iddio

The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has elected a new executive committee for its Cooperative Multipurpose Society during its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on February 13, 2026, at the Union’s Secretariat, Osho Drive.

At the well-attended gathering, the pioneer President of the Cooperative Society, Comrade Ayokunle Ajayi, delivered an emotional valedictory speech, expressing gratitude to the Union for the opportunity to serve as President of its financial arm.

Ajayi, who currently serves as Deputy Secretary General (DSG), Organising and Operations, described his tenure as a period of trust and responsibility, noting that managing members’ funds was a sacred duty undertaken with diligence and transparency.

He praised his outgoing executive members as dedicated, prudent, and committed individuals who worked selflessly in the overall interest of members.

Reflecting on the Cooperative’s journey since 2019 when he assumed office as President of the Maritime Workers’ (Apapa) Cooperative Multipurpose Society Limited, Ajayi recalled that the team started with little structure, limited technical know-how, and minimal operational capacity. He, however, expressed satisfaction that the Society has grown significantly, with measurable progress and improved operational stability.

Ajayi reaffirmed that the core mandate of the Cooperative remains the provision of accessible loans to members at modest interest rates to enhance their welfare and financial stability. He assured members that their funds are secure, properly audited, and submitted to the Lagos State Government in compliance with statutory requirements.

The outgoing President commended the Apapa Cooperative Area Officer and her team for their regulatory guidance and professional support, which he said contributed greatly to the Society’s growth.

Ajayi also lauded the President General of MWUN, Comrade Francis Abi, for ensuring prompt remittance of members’ cooperative deductions, describing the consistency as critical to sustaining members’ confidence in the Society. He equally acknowledged the immediate past President General, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, for his visionary role in establishing the Cooperative and for his enduring commitment to members’ welfare.

At the AGM, the newly elected executives of the Cooperative were announced as follows:

Comrade Micah Iddio – President

Comrade Wole Adetumi – Vice President

Comrade Serifat Ogbeide – Treasurer

Comrade Ade Ayo Rasheed – Secretary

Comrade Ruben Erujaro – Assistant Secretary

Comrade Grace Olatunji – Ex-Officio

Comrade Ayokunle Ajayi – Ex-Officio

The AGM concluded with a renewed commitment by members and leadership to strengthen the Cooperative and deepen financial support services for maritime workers nationwide.
